Home Sick

IMG_0981

I’m home sick today with a stomach bug, though I’m now feeling much better and ready to return to the real world (though perhaps not real food until tomorrow). What is it about ginger ale and saltine crackers that make you feel so much better when you are home sick?  I never drink soda (just …

Orange Creamsicle Green Monster

Hiiiiii!! I’ve been so lazy about blogging this week.  That’s just the straight-up truth.  Just plain lazy.  I didn’t cook much, I didn’t photograph much, and I certainly didn’t blog a thing.  I think it started with me being annoyed about those dang koeksister pictures I deleted off my camera, and then spiraled into…well, me …

Buttermilk Rye-Whole Wheat Bread

IMG_0704

I’m in a better mood today.  Cat pictures did help, thanks. I decided this bread was worth taking pictures post-baking. I love rye bread.  I especially love rye toast.  I extra especially love rye toast when the bread has caraway seeds throughout the loaf. This recipe is from Bernard Clayton’s New Complete Book of Breads, and …

Oops.

IMG_0240

I’ve had a tiring and frustrating day, and just when I sat down to watch a movie and blog all about koeksisters, I realized that I deleted the pictures off my camera thinking that I had already uploaded them to Lightroom when, in fact, I had not. So I’m not going to blog about koeksisters. …

Sunday Catnap

image

Sorry I’ve been MIA lately.  It has been a busy week and a busy weekend (in a good way!).  We had fabulous times with friends, and the one recipe I have ready to blog is kind of in-depth, and I’ve been putting it off. Also, I took the best nap ever today, and found this …

South African Multigrain Rusks

There are two cats in this photo.  Can you locate them both? That’s right. Emerson likes to scrabble his way up onto our bed…under the blankets.  And then he naps there.  I do get concerned that he will 1) suffocate or 2) be crushed to death when I fling myself with heedless abandon on the bed. …

Cinnamon Sugar Sunbutter

IMG_0252

Cinnamon sugar almond butter is my favorite of all the homemade nut butters, as I’m sure some of you may remember me waxing poetic (and clichéd) about it here.  So when I grabbed a 1-lb bag of sunflower seeds with the intention of attempting to make sunflower seed butter (or sun butter), I decided to …

Meringue Cookies

IMG_0006

I love meringues. They are light-airy-fluffy-crunchy-melty pillows of joy. The secret reason that I love these is that they look fancy, but are really easy to make.  And don’t even get me started on the ingredient list.  You could whip these babies together with the kind of ingredients you have in a minimally stocked fridge …

Thai Chicken Soup

There’s something about Saturday night that makes me really sad.  I know it’s waaay premature, but by the time 7:00 rolls around, I start to get a little sad that the weekend is ending.  Usually we spend Saturday running a million errands, so it feels like it speeds on by faster than Henry high on …

Blueberry Pie Green Monster

IMG_9855

Green monster time!  This is the next dessert counterpart to the carrot cake green monster, one of my favorites when I want a sweeter and more exciting green monster. Antioxidants.  Walnuts.  Yum. Blueberry Pie Green Monster 2 C spinach 1 C milk 1 t vanilla (or a combination with vanilla soy milk) 1 ripe banana …
